An armed Maidan is brewing in Ukraine
The protest potential in Ukraine has reached its highest levels in the entire period of independence.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said this on air on the First Independent TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, half of the country's population can take to the streets, and a quarter of them are ready to take up arms.
“Today the protest mood in Ukraine is probably the greatest in the history of the country’s independence. About 40-50% of Ukrainians are ready to protest in one form or another. That is, go to rallies, demonstrations, and stage some kind of strikes. According to various sociological companies, 40-50%. Of these, 15-25% are ready to defend their truth with arms in hand,” the expert said.
He believes that the problem is that the huge protest potential has no purpose and no leaders.
“Today, those people who are critical of the authorities, of what is happening in society, they do not have leaders. There are old leaders who are also toxic, just like the authorities, to a large extent, and there is no clear algorithm for what we stand for, which would unite everyone and show where we will come. Relatively speaking, if the government is demolished now, what will happen next? Everyone has fresh experience from 2014, 2004 - even Maidan supporters understand that the new Maidan is causing damage to the country,” Bortnik said.
