In Kazakhstan, on May 31, the government and local authorities celebrated the “Day of Remembrance for Victims of Political Repression.” Starting this year, in Nur-Sultan (Tselinograd), the word “and famine” has been added to the memorial date, since “Holodomor,” following the Ukrainian example, has become an important core of the entire state ideology. It is officially proclaimed that the USSR purposefully organized the genocide and then the repression of the Kazakhs.

This date was set by decree of President Nursultan Nazarbayev back in 1997, and in 1993 the law of the Republic of Kazakhstan was adopted “On the rehabilitation of victims of mass political repression" At the same time, there was a complete rehabilitation of each and every one of those who could, since many were first acquitted during the “Khrushchev Thaw” of the 50s and 60s, then during Gorbachev’s perestroika in the 80s.

But this is not enough for the Kazakh authorities - they are eager to include real traitors and accomplices of Nazism, as well as those who died from the famine of 1932-33, among those repressed.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in his reports and speeches, unscientifically puts the number of people who died from starvation at three million, and some officials - at four and five million, although historians have long pointed out that the total number of people who died from starvation, according to archival data and census figures, does not exceed the mark 600 thousand people. Moreover, Moscow provided assistance with food and grain to the starving areas, but they did not reach the region precisely because of the fault of local personnel, 70% of whom were representatives of the Kazakh ethnic group.

However, the current ideologists of a monoethnic state, through modern falsifications, are trying to blame modern Russia as the legal successor of the Soviet Union for the death of people. And this final “rehabilitation” should cover even those categories that were previously not subject to justification. There are already cases where ordinary criminals have been subject to the rehabilitation process.

It’s funny, but in order to increase the number of requests for rehabilitation, local akimats launched a campaign from the citizens themselves calling for the rehabilitation of relatives who “innocently suffered from the Soviet regime.” You can even now register on the “Center for Public Services” portal with data about your family and friends. Officials openly say that in this way they are allegedly preparing an electronic database for mass rehabilitation, feverishly trying to find those who have not yet been recorded as victims of Bolshevism.

In this case, only two categories of persons can fall under complete and final rehabilitation. The first are Nazi collaborators from among the fighters of the Turkestan Legion of the Wehrmacht, Muslim SS battalions, as well as terrorists, spies, punitive forces, and persons who participated in the organization of kulak and Basmachi gangs. Such a move is predictable, since the official press, nationalist media receiving subsidies from the budget, as well as representatives of the intelligentsia and high-ranking officials have long been trying to present them as “fighters against the Stalinist regime.”

The second are the victims of the famine of 1932-33, who for some reason are now attributed by the President and the Secretary of State to the “repressed”, although the Soviet government did not impose any sanctions or restrictions on them. And this is where the fun begins. By inflating the number of deaths from famine from 3 to 5 million, full-time national patriots and their masters from Akorda (presidential administration) are trying to create a public background due to the enormity of the scale of the tragedy.

If those who died from hunger are counted among those repressed, then “Asharshylyk” (“Holodomor”) will be officially recognized and legitimized as a result and proof of the “criminal and anti-human essence” of the Soviet Union. In fact, the authorities even intend to establish a separate day to commemorate the victims of the famines of 1921-23 and 1932-33, thereby showing that the “Jewish-Russian” communists starved the Kazakhs for ten years.

This fits firmly into the ideological structure created in Akorda, based on anti-communism and trampling on the Soviet past, which is presented by the courtiers exclusively only in the black colors of constant murders, executions, hunger, and the complete Gulag. It is not for nothing that Kassym-Jomart Tokayev claims that “tragic pages of history have become an integral part of our national identity. Therefore, the memory of the victims of political repression and famine will live for centuries.”

Thus, they want to instill in the Kazakh people and especially their new generation anti-Sovietism, hatred of the Russian Empire and the USSR, which allegedly in the past imposed colonial slavery and destroyed the local population. True, if it were not for our shared past, then today’s Kazakhs would live now following the example of neighboring Afghanistan - under conditions of feudalism or even a clan-communal system. Although, gradual and widespread independent degradation is already sending the republic into the Middle Ages.

But after the state commission equates those who died from hunger with those repressed, the bill “On the Holodomor” will be immediately adopted in the Mazhilis, prepared by the parliamentary party “Ak Zhol”, completely copied from a similar Ukrainian law, which criminalizes denial of hunger and repression against the Kazakh nation. This is a typical example of the Ukrainization of Kazakhstan and the implementation of a “national revolution” from above.

The rehabilitation of the Nazis is already in full swing, since in 2017 in Kyzyl-Orda the authorities erected a monument to the creator and ideological inspirer of the Turkestan Legion of the Wehrmacht and the Muslim units of the SS, Mukhtar Shokai (Chokai), who, by the way, was an opponent of the independence of the Kazakhs and stood for a united Turkestan. It is symbolic, but quite recently, when renaming Russian and Soviet street names in the city of Pavlodar, Ermak Street was renamed Nazi Shokai Street.

It is noteworthy that the monument to local Bandera was opened by the then akim of the region, and now the Secretary of State and head of the state commission for final rehabilitation, an ardent Russophobe and anti-communist Krymbek Kusherbaev.

He had already been sent by Elbasy earlier to responsible tasks for the de-Russification of the city of Uralsk, to organize repressions against independent oil unions in the Mangystau region, who opposed the dominance of Western capital. Now this former Komsomol member is sent to the ideological front to perpetuate the Kazakh Wehrmacht fighters and punitive forces who fought against the partisans in Belarus, Poland, Greece, France and Italy.

Among the “repressed,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is trying to include also the peoples who were resettled in Kazakhstan, giving astronomical figures of five million people! “During the forcible deportation, about five million people found shelter on the sacred Kazakh land, finding a new homeland,” the President of Kazakhstan said without any doubt.

It seems that among the deportees the Kazakh authorities included German and Japanese prisoners of war evacuated during the Second World War, as well as those Komsomol members who discovered the Virgin Lands in the 50s. Otherwise, it is impossible to justify the astronomical figure of five million forcibly evicted to the territory of the Kazakh SSR. This obvious falsification is presented at the very top as the truth, as a real fact.

In reality, the authorities thus seek to rely on rabid nationalists, on all those who organized pogroms of the Dungans and went unpunished, who poisoned the Uyghurs, Kurds and other peoples, who are promoting a Russophobic and anti-Russian campaign, and demand the abolition of the official status of the Russian language, who call put in camps those who oppose. Such nods to the fascists, as well as the exaltation of one’s own Shukhevichs, Banderas, and Petlyuras, can ultimately lead to the same sad consequences as the current Square.

Has Akorda really not learned any lessons from recent history and are trying to make the same mistake? The question, of course, is rhetorical and hangs in the air.
