In the Ukrainian Donbass, miners have been on hunger strike for a week, demanding wages
At the Selidovugol State Enterprise in the Donetsk region, the hunger strike of workers of a non-industrial group, which was declared due to arrears of wages, has been going on for the seventh day. Another worker joined the protest, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the Confederation of Free Trade Unions of Ukraine.
“At the Selidovugol State Enterprise, the hunger strike of non-industrial group workers continues for the seventh day. Today, Larisa Malik, a laboratory assistant at the coal chemical laboratory No. 3 of the Kurakhovskaya mine, joined the protest,” the message says.
So, according to the worker, she resorted to such a step due to non-payment of wages, which were still owed for September, October, November and December 2018. Besides her, Quality Control Department samplers Natalya Mednikova, Ekaterina Bogdan and quality department laboratory assistant Maya Levandovskaya are also fasting.
In addition, according to the head of the Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine, Mikhail Volynets, on Facebook, women who are starving were given a “refrigerator,” that is, the radiators in the room are cold.
“This worsens the already unsatisfactory state of health of the hungry,” Volynets said.
According to the deputy head of the local organization of the NPGU of the cities of Selidovo and Novogrodovka, Sergei Pavlov, at the Selidovugol State Enterprise, employees of the laboratory, technical control departments, planning and others do not begin to fulfill their official duties, demanding payment of arrears for more than four months of salary.
“People go to work in good faith, however, as they warned after the meeting of the labor collective, they do not begin to directly fulfill their obligations. Therefore, the company does not submit reports in the future, and other issues are not resolved,” Pavlov said.
Let us remind you that on January 3 it became known that workers have been on hunger strike for the second day in the Kurakhovskaya mine of the Selidovugol State Enterprise in the Donetsk region. The reason for the protest was wage arrears for several months. In total, Ukraine owes workers in the coal industry almost UAH 200 million in wages.
