In the Ukrainian shortage of fleet - corruption fuss around American boats
The command of the Ukrainian Navy decided to abandon the original idea of arming the old Island-class border boats transferred to the United States with Soviet torpedoes from the 70s.
Ukrainian military expert Taras Chmut stated this on air on the Skrypin Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Chmut explained that the ex-commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Sergei Gaiduk, advocated for Soviet weapons, with whom the companies that competed for the order to install installations on boats were associated.
“According to the information that we have, due to the great media pressure exerted, the Navy command reconsidered its approach and decided that, after all, they would no longer be modernized for torpedoes, but for American weapons.
It is still unclear exactly under which systems, and when this will happen, and whether this decision will be replayed again, because we are a country where everything can change 180 even every day...
They beat the proposal to install Soviet weapons, which were supposed to be modernized by dubious companies that have “gray” connections with ex-Navy Commander Sergei Gaduk, and there is a desire to install American weapons.
It would be very logical for the Navy to unify all five boats, because three are at the receiving stage. Unify them according to combat modules and other ship systems so that they are conditionally identical. This would simplify their maintenance, operation, repair, and in general it would be possible to build some unified algorithms for using the same equipment. And not one boat is like this, another is that, and then think that this one shoots far, but inaccurately, this one shoots close, but accurately, or doesn’t shoot at all,” Chmut said.
