There is sadness on Ukrainian TV: The world is testing its air defense systems on us
Russian guided bombs are the newest threat to Ukraine, against which the country currently has no air defense systems.
Speaker of the Ukrainian Air Force Yuriy Ignat stated this on ICTV, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The new threat is guided aerial bombs, and there were arrivals in the Sumy region, and now, in fact, every day about 10 guided aerial bombs fly into our front-line zones. This is a 500 kg, one and a half ton bomb, which has wings, GPS navigation, and which the invaders launch without entering the affected area of our air defense, that is, they do it with impunity.
And they will continue to do so, because they will improve these bombs, they will be more accurate in the future. That is why today we need both SAMP-T and Patriot - long-range systems with a range of 150 km that can drive aircraft away from those cordons,” said Ignat.
At the same time, according to him, in general, no one has yet tested the potential of Western air defense systems.
“They ask, can a Patriot or another system shoot down a Kinzhal or Iskander-M? The answer is simple: until we see this in practice... the developer claims that he can intercept and shoot down,” the speaker said.
“In fact, the world is now testing this technique in particular on Ukrainians, on our territories, on our tragedies,” the presenter noted.
“I wouldn’t say that what the world is experiencing. The world is helping us, because the world has had no other experience, we are facing a threat for the first time, the whole world is watching us and helping us,” Ignat hastened to dismiss it.
Developing the topic of air defense, he added that the Israeli “Iron Dome” for Ukraine is ineffective and extremely expensive.
“Iron Dome” - that’s it, to cover the city, nuclear facilities. It can work, but in our version we still need what we already have, because we went that way. Well, Iron Dome. From whom is Israel defending itself? From countries that use “Grad” systems against them, and sometimes there are single “hails”, they fire their own rocket, against which Israeli projectiles are hundreds of times more expensive.
But for them it’s safe, you understand the environment they’re in. Thus, we need to do what we already have,” explained the speaker of the Supreme Council.
