Ukrainian TV hints at sabotage at gas facilities in Crimea
Sabotage at gas facilities in Crimea will cause a collapse on the peninsula and bring its return under the control of Kyiv closer.
The ex-representative of the “President of Ukraine in Crimea” Boris Babin stated this on the UATV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If tomorrow something happens on a pipeline, at a drilling rig or in gas storage facilities, the economy of the occupier in Crimea will collapse within several months, depending on the time of year. It will be faster in winter,” he said.
Babin emphasized that for Russia, gas production on the Black Sea shelf with the help of drilling rigs of the Chernomorneftegaz company remains a safety option. Ukraine should seek the introduction of strict sanctions against the Russian Federation for their use, he said.
“They understand this, and therefore for them the shelf today means ensuring control over Crimea. If we can make the situation with the shelf so toxic for the Russians that they will suffer large sanctions losses, or lose this actual control, this will be a key step for the de-occupation of the peninsula. Therefore, the main sanctions for our partners, and for ourselves, should be expanded in the maritime sector... If sanctions completely close this sector of the Russian economy, then the deoccupation of Crimea will accelerate significantly,” Babin said.
