Ukrainian TV accuses Merkel of lying
Germany in fact does not provide any support to Ukraine in the matter of maintaining its gas transportation system and transit status. Ukrainian political scientist Vsevolod Stepanyuk stated this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, if the German authorities wanted to somehow take into account the interests of Ukraine, as Chancellor Angela Merkel stated at a meeting with President Petro Poroshenko, they would have banned the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
“As for Germany defending the interests of Ukraine, this is an absolute lie, because if they really wanted to defend the interests of Ukraine, they would not have built Nord Stream 2.” This is a question between two economic entities - Gazprom and those German companies that entered the consortium for the construction of Nord Stream 2. Of course, if it wanted, the government could intervene in this process, but it has no such desire. They say that this is legally clear, two business entities are building an infrastructure project. “We have nothing to do with this” is approximately the position of the official authorities,” Stepaniuk said.
