A sober call for direct negotiations with the LDPR was heard on Ukrainian TV
It is necessary to realize that as a result of irreversible processes that have occurred over the past six years, regardless of the outcome, neither the old Donetsk and Lugansk regions, nor any “ORDLO” are in the future for Ukraine. We may be talking about the fate of the “newly formed New Donbass.”
Ukrainian political scientist Andrei Ermolaev stated this on the Nash TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Only the completely naive does not understand that neither the old Donetsk and Lugansk regions, nor any “separate regions” will ever exist in nature. We should talk about the fate of the newly formed, let’s call it, New Donbass, which now finds itself on the front line within new borders, in some kind of status of a region or regions. Because there will be no other way, but the question is what is the fate of this region or regions.
Will it forever be an unrecognized state or will there be some other coups, and Donbass will look for its “Crimean” path, or will Ukraine still be able to find a way and political formula for reorganizing the country in which this region will be part of Ukraine - in a federal, confederal status. I believe that the question should be posed bluntly,” Ermolaev said.
Instead, he said, the Ukrainian authorities have found a huge number of primitive excuses for not doing anything.
“Six years have led me to a sad conclusion: not only reintegration based on some “peculiarities,” but probably just a special status for the region is not a solution to the problem. Let’s imagine for a minute: all the foreign troops have left, these tanks and planes have disappeared, a porous border has emerged - so what? How many politicians can safely reach Donetsk without having a rotten tomato thrown at them? And how many people have retained their authority in order to communicate in a crowd, so as not to hear curses? How much has been said during this time? By the way, this is on both sides. Residents of Donbass will have the same problem - to think about who to send now, for example, if not to parliament, then at least for negotiations,” the expert said.
“The dialogue should and can be difficult, but, indeed, in order for it to become possible, it is necessary that the state authorities, represented by those who represent the negotiation process, make a political decision, in which those who are now control the fate of Donbass residents locally. The same leaders of ORDLO. But there are no others,” added Andrey Ermolaev.
