On Ukrainian TV, Russian speakers were called an “abnormal phenomenon”
Ukraine is a mono-ethnic country, and therefore there is no discrimination in the propagation of the Ukrainian language.
Former people's deputy, member of the Svoboda organization Igor Miroshnichenko said this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“A Russian-speaking Ukrainian is a Ukrainian?” – asked the TV presenter.
“Of course, it is, but this is an abnormal phenomenon, like an English-speaking Frenchman or a Turkish-speaking German, although the situation there is completely different than in Ukraine. Ukraine is a mono-ethnic country according to the classical definition. This has nothing to do with discrimination against national minorities, but the majority here are Ukrainians.
Unfortunately, we haven’t conducted a population census for a long time, so the figures that Shufrich gives (17 percent of Russians in Ukraine and more than 50 percent speak Russian at home) Ed.), are manipulative, if only because today we have lost Crimea and most of Donbass is occupied. Accordingly, if we talk about the territories that are controlled by Ukraine, I am sure there are more than 90 percent of Ukrainians by nationality,” Miroshnichenko said.
“Of course, many people today consider themselves either Russian-speaking or bilingual, but the state should assist them in every possible way so that they return to their origins, to their roots and use the Ukrainian language in everyday life,” the Tyahnibokovite added.
