On Ukrainian TV they threaten to establish a border in the Sea of Azov
Ukraine must unilaterally adopt a maritime strategy or changes to the “de-occupation of Crimea” strategy in order to delineate its borders in the Sea of Azov, which is still considered common with the Russian Federation. This will allow the Ukrainian military to shoot at the Russians if they approach the shore and catch “underwater saboteurs.”
Former deputy head of the State Hydrography of Ukraine, lawyer Bogdan Ustimenko stated this on the ATR TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Perhaps, if not a maritime security strategy was adopted, but at least we supplemented one of the strategies, most likely, the de-occupation strategy with one section on the de-occupation of Crimea and established measures there on the need to initiate the establishment of a maritime border procedure between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, this is very important .
And we can start this process on the basis of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. We need to establish borders in the Sea of Azov in order to apply certain measures against the Russian Federation, so that we expand the operational zone of our Armed Forces by 12 nautical miles, so that they can fight underwater saboteurs, so that they can use weapons against Russian aggression from the sea.
Because we have actually reduced the operational area for the use of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by 12 nautical miles - that’s actually 22 kilometers. This is a very big problem,” Ustimenko said.
