A US inspection team is arriving in Ukraine to monitor the implementation of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE), a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the Verification Directorate of the General Staff, this week foreign verifiers will conduct two inspections of announced sites.
“In fulfillment of international obligations in the field of conventional arms control, from March 19 to March 23, 2018, a nine-member US multinational inspection team will be on the territory of Ukraine to conduct two inspections of declared CFE sites. The US inspection team will include representatives of Romania and Poland,” the Ukrainian verifiers said in a statement.
The press service noted that the purpose of these measures is to monitor Ukraine’s compliance with quantitative restrictions on weapons and military equipment falling under the CFE Treaty.
Under the terms of the CFE Treaty, the international inspection team will report the location of the first inspection one hour after arriving at the Dnepropetrovsk entry-exit point.
