Another top official and oligarch from the Yanukovych era returned to Ukraine
Businessman, former chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine and ex-vice prime minister during the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych Valery Khoroshkovsky, who left the country in 2012, returned to Ukraine today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Khoroshkovsky flew to Kyiv on a private flight on Tuesday, May 21. Journalists from the “Schemes” program reported this.
The publication recalls that Valery Khoroshkovsky left Ukraine at the end of 2012. According to media reports, he lived in Monaco. His departure abroad was preceded by a conflict with ex-Prime Minister Mykola Azarov. In December 2012, Khoroshkovsky, while holding the post of First Deputy Prime Minister, wrote a letter of resignation. He justified his decision by “disagreement regarding the reappointment of Mykola Azarov to the post of prime minister.”
In 2014, Valery Khoroshkovsky tried to return to politics. He ran number two on the list of “Strong Ukraine” Sergei Tigipko for the Verkhovna Rada. A group of people's deputies tried to deregister him due to his absence from the country for two years. The court refused, but Khoroshkovsky did not become a deputy, since “Strong Ukraine” did not receive the required number of votes.
Valery Khoroshkovsky is a Ukrainian politician, businessman, former owner of the Inter TV channel. He held the positions of Minister of Economy in the government of Viktor Yanukovych, Chairman of the State Customs Service during the presidency of Viktor Yushchenko, Chairman of the Security Service during the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych, Minister of Finance and First Deputy Prime Minister in the government of Mykola Azarov. He was a member of the so-called Firtash-Levochkin political group, which now supports the politician and ex-candidate for President of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko, who is considered in Kyiv to be a supporter of a more pragmatic course in relations with Russia. The media named Khoroshkovsky among the business pool that allegedly supported Vladimir Zelensky during the election campaign.
