A Muslim crescent next to a cross will appear at the entrance to the capital of Crimea

In Simferopol, opposite the worship cross installed by the road in the Kamenka microdistrict, a Muslim crescent will appear. State Duma deputy Ruslan Balbek reported this on his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to the parliamentarian, adjacent Christian and Muslim symbols will testify to interfaith peace on the peninsula.

“Together with members of the Interfaith Council of Crimea “Peace is a Gift of God” we held a meeting dedicated to the upcoming population census and the installation of a religious sign at the entrance to Simferopol from Belogorsk. Across the road, opposite the worship cross, in the compact residential district of Kamenka, a Muslim crescent will appear - council members unanimously supported the initiative. There are also already patrons who will help realize the idea.

I thank everyone present for their respect for traditional faiths, in particular Islam, their support and sincere desire to assist in this matter. It’s gratifying that such mutual support reigns on our blessed Crimean land,” writes Balbec.

Earlier, the installation of the cross caused protests from the Majlis, which was banned for extremism. The Kamenka microdistrict is mainly inhabited by Crimean Tatars, who are Muslims. In 2016, after the establishment of the cross, Majlis member Guyana Yuksel said that they now live “under the shadow of the cross.” Before the installation, the Mejlis members brought their supporters onto the route, who prevented the installation of the worship cross.
