According to the press service of the Confederation of Free Trade Unions of Ukraine, some of the protesters attempted to block the Lviv-Lutsk highway, in two places at once.
The protesting miners of Novovolynsk were also supported by miners from the Buzhanskaya mine and other mines.
“Several thousand protesters gathered in the central square of the city, demanding payment of arrears of wages, which they have not received since December 2014. The mayor of the city, Viktor Sapozhnikov, came out to them and proposed to delegate a group of activists to travel to Lutsk, where the head of the region, Vladimir Gunchik, in the presence of miners during a conference call, would raise this issue with Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk. A dozen and a half protesters went to the regional center. Now there is no information from there,” the press service said in a statement.
According to the chairman of the primary trade union organization of the NPGU of the separate division of the Novovolynskoye mine administration, Anatoly Muhomedzhanov, tomorrow the miners again intend to come to the central square of the city at 8:00.
“If the situation does not budge, the miners intend to block the international highway near Yagodin on Friday. There is nothing else left,” he said.
As PolitNavigator reported, miners of the state-owned enterprise Lvovugol went on strike yesterday due to non-payment of wages for January and February of this year.
