In Volyn there was not genocide, but only ethnic cleansing - Portnikov
For the first time, Polish authorities officially took the initiative to recognize the Volyn massacre as genocide.

Ukrainian propagandist and Radio Liberty columnist Vitaly Portnikov stated this at a round table in Kyiv, commenting on the decision of the Polish Senate, which recommended the Sejm to recognize the Volyn massacre as a genocide of Poles by Ukrainian nationalists.
“We are well aware that the Law and Justice party of Jaroslaw Kaczynski decided to take an active part in the development of new regulations related to political assessments of historical events,” Portniokov noted. – And the shift in emphasis in these resolutions from ethnic cleansing to genocide occurs for the first time in the state assessment of the tragedy in Volyn. We understand perfectly well that ethnic cleansing with elements of genocide and genocide are different definitions, including in the legal sense. Genocide is the so-called final solution, that is, the desire to get rid of an ethnic group - what the National Socialist Party of Germany adopted in relation to the Jewish people.”
“There was not a single Ukrainian nationalist who would want to destroy the Polish ethnic group in principle,” says the Ukrainian propagandist. – On the territory of Volyn there was a desire to actually get rid of the ethnic group that interfered with those who adhered to such a concept. And, of course, there is no justification for the ethnic cleansing carried out by Ukrainian radical forces against Poles or Polish radical forces against Ukrainians, as well as the participation of both radical forces in the real genocide of the Jewish people that took place on Polish and Ukrainian lands.”
