In Volyn, 13 tombstones were stolen from a mass grave of fighters against Nazism

An indictment against two young people suspected of dismantling 13 tombstones from the Mass Grave of fighters against Nazism has been sent to court.

This was reported by the press service of the Volyn Region Prosecutor's Office, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The Lutsk local prosecutor’s office approved and sent to the court an indictment in criminal proceedings for the desecration of a grave committed by a 23-year-old and a 21-year-old young man in Torchin,” the report says.

The eldest of the attackers, previously convicted of robbery and hooliganism, and his younger partner, who has not yet been convicted, on the evening of June 23, 2017, dismantled 13 tombstones from the mass grave of soldiers who fought against Nazism during the Great Patriotic War, in the village. Torchin, Lutsk district, and sold them for scrap metal.

By these actions they caused material damage to the Torchinsky village council totaling 19 thousand UAH.

Both attackers, who sincerely repented of their deeds, are accused of committing a criminal offense under Part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Let us recall that the sanction of Part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for such a crime provides for punishment of up to 7 years in prison.
