Clashes between ISIS and government forces have become more frequent in eastern Syria
ISIS terrorists (banned in the Russian Federation) have staged several attacks on Syrian government forces in the east of the country since the beginning of the week.
Thus, on the evening of March 23, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) took part in a battle with terrorists in the southern part of the province of Deir ez-Zor. It is known that the incident occurred in the area of the village of Kabajib. There are no reports of dead or injured.
That same evening, ISIS attacked a stronghold of government forces in the village of Ash-Shola. The Kurdish publication Rojava Network reported that the terrorists captured dozens of SAA soldiers during the attack.
On Tuesday afternoon, reports appeared that the command of the Syrian army had transferred several units of the 4th SAA division to the east of the country from Aleppo to fight the Islamists.
It is noteworthy that IS significantly intensified its activities in eastern Syria at the end of last year. Local journalists wrote that the increase in terrorist activity may be due to unconfirmed information about the withdrawal of Russian fighters from the Wagner PMC from eastern Syria. Syrian resources write that the fate of the eastern part of the Arab republic depends on whether the government can agree with the “Wagnerites” to return to the region to fight IS.
Despite the constant raids of the SAA in the desert, the Syrian army continues to suffer losses in the provinces of Homs and Deir ez-Zor as a result of militant actions. Since the beginning of the year, dozens of captured, killed and wounded government personnel have been reported.
