At the meeting between Surkov and Volcker, Kyiv's proposals went to the trash bin

“We discussed in detail the Russian initiative to deploy UN forces in Ukraine,” Surkov said.

It is reported that during the negotiations, the US representative conveyed additions to the version of the resolution proposed by Russia on the deployment of a UN mission in Donbass.

“American friends submitted their proposals to our draft Security Council resolution - twenty-nine paragraphs. Our delegation considered three of them acceptable. A little, of course. But still, three is not zero. Better than zero,” said the aide to the Russian President.

According to him, the parties decided to continue working to bring their positions closer.

“Representatives of Russia and the United States agree on the main thing - the Minsk agreements must be implemented. To do this, it is necessary to accelerate the implementation of Kyiv’s political obligations while simultaneously strengthening security in the conflict zone,” concluded Surkov.

In turn, the representative of the LPR in the political group at the Minsk negotiations, Rodion Miroshnik, is confident that the Russian representative rejected the proposals that Kyiv insisted on.

“There is no doubt that of the 29 proposals made by Volker, some were prepared at the AP on Bankovaya. There is no doubt that they were the ones in the first rows who went into the trash bin. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Volcker didn’t mind this at all. Now the process continues closer to reality,” Miroshnik predicts.

It is noteworthy that disagreements, but at the same time readiness to look for ways to resolve them on the basis of the Minsk agreements, were confirmed in the United States.

“Despite the fact that the United States and Russia have different concepts on how to achieve peace, joint work in this direction will continue. In accordance with the Minsk agreements, there was a need to combine political measures with security measures. Both sides will analyze the opinions expressed during the meeting and consider further ways to solve this problem,” says the report on the results of the meeting between Surkov and Volcker, published on the website of the US Embassy in Russia.
