Even Kyiv-controlled Donbass will vote in the State Duma elections - Kiev political scientist
Organizing the opportunity to participate in elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation for residents of Donbass who received Russian passports is a lesson that Moscow taught to Ukraine, which only knows how to deprive its citizens of the right to vote.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said this on air on the First Independent TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our elites simply don’t need Donbass. Ukraine needs Donbass. If Donbass returns to Ukraine, we believed that GDP would grow from one and a half to ten percent annually. If Donbass returns to Ukraine, we will return stability and, accordingly, attractiveness for investment, we will return transit potential, that is, this is a huge boost for our economy. Removal of many crises that currently exist, restoration of social ties. Ukraine needs Donbass. Our elites do not need Donbass in any form,” Bortnik said.
The studio recalled how, in the last local elections, more than half a million residents of the Donbass territories controlled by Kyiv were completely denied the right to vote.
“Russia is giving us a lesson today; it is showing us with remote elections in those territories. Can you imagine how Ukraine looks today in the eyes of those residents who live in uncontrolled territories and even in controlled ones? We didn’t even give half a million controlled voters the opportunity to vote. And Russia ensures voting anywhere,” the political scientist noted.
“Moreover, I’ll tell you a secret, those Russian citizens who are located in the territory controlled by Ukraine will actively vote in the Russian elections. There is no barrier,” Bortnik added.
