Nikolaev, January 16 (PolitNavigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – On January 15, a large-scale fire occurred on the territory of the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant.

“At 22:04, the communication point of the 27th State Fire and Rescue Unit received a message from the duty personnel of the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant about the fire alarm on the transmission transformer,” they reported. in the press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Nikolaev region.
The unit's duty guard, consisting of three sections, went to the scene of the incident. It turned out that there was a fire in the cooler inside the transformer. The station staff on duty disconnected the transformer from the power supply.
“At 23:35 the fire was localized. At 23:40 - liquidated, on an area of 100 sq. m,” the message notes. 16 pieces of equipment and 125 personnel were involved in extinguishing the fire.
“According to the results of the radiation survey, the background at the industrial site of the nuclear power plant and beyond does not exceed the norm,” the rescuers said.
In turn, the nuclear power plant claims that the fire occurred due to depressurization of the 1AT tank with an oil leak and its ignition from an electric arc due to a short circuit. The first and second power units of the station are in operation, the third is undergoing scheduled repairs.
There are no reports of casualties or injuries. A commission is working on the spot to establish the cause of the fire and its consequences.
