This was reported by the UNN agency.
It is reported that 50 employees from 17 forestry enterprises in the Transcarpathian region took part in the competition. At the grand opening, Chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Gennady Moskal noted that the competition should show that workers in the forest industry of the region are, first of all, professionals and keepers of the traditions of their grandfathers and great-grandfathers.
“The championship program included stages such as felling wood, installing a new chain on a chainsaw, cross-cutting with a combined cut, precision cross-cutting, separating knots and performing in a free program. This year, the organizers decided to borrow European experience in holding such events, so not a single tree on the championship site was damaged. To arrange the competition locations, timber was brought from planned logging - 20 12-meter trunks were dug to a 2-meter depth for the tree-felling competition, special logs were prepared for bucking, and trunks with artificial branches were made for the knot-separation competition,” they say in the publication.
“All wood used for the competition will subsequently be sold by our forestry enterprises. It is in this format that similar competitions are held in neighboring EU countries,” the publication quotes the head of the Transcarpathian Regional Department of Forestry and Hunting, Valeriy Murgu.
He also added that the main indicator of the work of Transcarpathian foresters is compliance with safety regulations.
Foresters and fellers of Transcarpathia dedicated the competition to their famous fellow countryman Vasily Shorban, who in 1967 won the World Lumberjack Competition in Montreal (Canada). The current winners of the regional selection will represent Transcarpathia at the All-Ukrainian Championship, which will be held in the Kyiv region, in two weeks.
