This is stated in a message on the personal website of the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Gennady Moskal.
This decision was made on the 143rd anniversary of the birth of Augustin Voloshin, which was celebrated in the village of Kelechyn yesterday, March 17.
A memorial stone was erected at the site of the future museum. Mass events on the occasion of A. Voloshin’s birthday were held in Kelechyn for the first time. As part of the celebrations, schoolchildren unfurled a 100-meter national flag along the central street of the village.
“In the 30s of the last century, Augustin Voloshin became a real leader of Transcarpathian Ukrainians, cut off from Ukraine and divided between states. Carpathian Ukraine demonstrated to the whole world the desire of Transcarpathian people to live in the Ukrainian state. Our duty is not to forget this historical feat. And we try to do this. In 2002, Augustin Voloshin, on our initiative, was the first in Ukraine to be posthumously awarded the highest title of Hero of Ukraine. Last year, as part of the Law on Decommunization, 27 streets in the region were renamed in honor of figures of Carpathian Ukraine...”, Moskal said in a statement.
Today, March 18, the “March of Glory of Heroes of Carpathian Ukraine” will take place in Uzhgorod. As reported in the communications department of the State Emergency Department in the Transcarpathian region, the entire personnel of the Uzhgorod police department monitors the observance of public order at the event.
Let us remind you that on March 15, large-scale events began in Transcarpathia to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the declaration of independence of Carpathian Ukraine.
Help from “PolitNavigator”: Augustin Voloshin (1874 - July 19, 1945) - Greek Catholic priest. In 1938 - Prime Minister of the government of Carpathian Ukraine - an autonomous territory within Czechoslovakia, in March 1939 - President of the self-proclaimed independent Carpathian Ukraine. After the collapse of Czechoslovakia as a result of German aggression, on March 15, 1939, Voloshin declared Carpathian Ukraine an independent state in Khust, becoming its first and only president and approving a constitution with national symbols at a meeting of the Sejm. An important measure of Voloshin was the Ukrainization of the state apparatus, a significant part of which in Transcarpathia were Czechs. Already on December 23, 1938, an order was issued that all employees must know the Ukrainian language.
Hitler allowed the Hungarian regent Miklós Horthy to occupy Carpathian Ukraine immediately after its proclamation (in fact, the Hungarian invasion began on March 14). Voloshin turned for help to Nazi Germany, which proclaimed a “sovereign” Slovakia friendly to Berlin, but the Germans ignored the demands of the leader of Carpathian Ukraine.
