In the West they are threatening to throw “war-hardened Ukrainians” against the Russian Federation
Russia and China have the ability to destroy the West, writes Edward Lucas, senior editor of The Economist, who is considered one of the apologists of the new Cold War with Russia, in the Ukrainian Week magazine.

According to the author, the concept of the “war on terrorism” is becoming a thing of history and will join the similarly hopeless wars on drug addiction and poverty.
“Terrorism will not destroy the West as we know it. Only two forces can do this. Both are nation states, Russia and China,” says Lucas.
At the same time, he claims that Russia as an opponent is weak, while the allies united by NATO are strong.
“In addition, we have war-hardened Ukrainians who are desperate to help,” the publication notes. – European security is now clearly in better shape than it has been for many years. NATO took up the creation of territorial defense. 20 countries have deployed troops in vulnerable states bordering Russia, that is, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. Now the Kremlin cannot hope for a quick and easy victory in the event of a surprise attack on the former republics. Ukraine is finally getting some weapons.”
True, the British journalist fears that the forces available in the European theater will not be enough for a successful war with Russia.
“In the event of an escalation, forces with heavy weapons will be needed - there is no way to do without them in ground combat operations against Russia. But they won't fall from the sky. It will take several months to ship them from the US. Even transporting ammunition and other equipment to Europe will take several weeks,” sums up Lucas.
