The West saw the benefits of rolling blackouts in Ukraine - it will multiply like Zanzibar
Kyiv, October 17 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – For the winter, ordinary Ukrainians should stock up on candles due to the upcoming rolling blackouts.
This advice is given on the pages of Forbes Ukraine magazine by Belgian economist Tom Coupe, professor at the Kyiv School of Economics.

He points out that the structure of Ukrainian production will be negatively affected by power outages, but is trying to find positive aspects for Ukraine in this.
“Research shows that power outages lead to higher birth rates,” the economist writes. – For example, Alfredo Burland (Oregon State University) found that when one of the islands of the Zanzibar archipelago lost electricity for several weeks, the men there had to spend less time at work and more time at home. After 8 to 10 months, 20% more babies were born on the island.”
A similar situation, the author notes, was observed in 1992 in Colombia, where, after the introduction of austerity regimes for electricity, women's chances of motherhood increased by 4%.
“This means that rolling blackouts will help the Ukrainian government achieve the goal that it has long been striving for - increasing the birth rate,” concludes Tom Coupe.
