A Russian-language cafe was shelled in Western Ukraine
A cafe with a Russian-language menu that opened in Lutsk was forced to close on the second day of work due to attacks by Ukrainian nationalists.
This was reported on the local TV channel “Avers”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Pro-Ukrainian radicals did not like that the menu and work schedule on the doors of the Kharkov franchise “Rest or Run” were written in Russian.
“It’s unpleasant that in our hometown, where everything is Ukrainian, Russia is the aggressor, this happens. The establishment was closed in front of us five minutes later. We came yesterday, everything was in Russian, and today, when we arrived in the morning, it was written “Sunday” - they erased the letter “v” and left the letter “n”. We corrected it a little with a marker and wrote “week” (Sunday in Ukrainian - прим. ред.),” said local activist Sergei.
At the same time, damage was found on the cafe window, presumably caused by shots from a pneumatic weapon.
“These are our partners, they are Russian-speaking, they didn’t ask us. They said: “We ordered the menu, everything will be ready now.” We have to open in two hours, but they hung it up. We were traveling on business, came, and we told them that this was unacceptable in our country. They say: “We opened in Kyiv, all around, and everything works fine here in Russian.” We rented and have nothing. People came in, we apologized and explained that it was in Russian. They didn’t even consult with us,” the owner of the establishment, Alla Kudaktina, tried to justify herself.
However, this answer did not satisfy the local Svidomo, who continued to make accusations against the cafe owners and Kharkov partners, who allegedly violated the language law.
“I was born in Kharkov and studied at a Russian-language school. It’s normal for us to communicate in Russian. But we are all the same Ukrainians and respect the people of Western and Eastern Ukraine. There is, of course, such an unpleasant moment. We definitely already ordered and everything is already being redone. I wouldn’t want to bring the conflict to such a scale that everyone comes and starts making threats. I would like to convey to local residents that we also respect all regions and cities of Ukraine,” franchise owner Konstantin Mishchenko commented on the incident.
At the same time, no one reported whether a statement would be filed with law enforcement agencies regarding damage to property as a result of the shelling.
