“The Ukrainian authorities bear responsibility for allowing a civilian aircraft to fly in a war zone. It was necessary to ban flights over Donbass even earlier. It is not clear why the decision to completely close the airspace over the ATO area was made only after the tragedy,” said the Russian permanent representative.
Vitaly Churkin also suggested not to rush into accusations before an impartial investigation into the incident has been carried out, for which he proposed creating an international commission.
Vitaly Churkin criticized Kyiv, accusing the Ukrainian government of shelling the cities of the DPR and LPR, as well as the border regions of Russia.
“Guided by their Western guides, the Ukrainian authorities not only do not facilitate the evacuation of civilians from the conflict zone. The leadership of Ukraine does not show the slightest desire to negotiate peace with the LPR and DPR. The punitive operation in the East of Ukraine must be stopped immediately; a negotiated way out of the crisis is still possible,” Churkin addressed the UN.
As Navigator reported, Russian aviation circles believe that Ukraine left the upper corridor open for international flights over Donbass only because it did not want to lose fees for navigation services.
