The blockade of Transnistria by pro-Romanian militants is scheduled for tomorrow
Several Moldovan unionists (supporters of unification with Romania) staged a provocation today on the border with Transnistria at the checkpoint in Varnita.
This was reported by the First Transnistria TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The provocateurs demanded the removal of 31 checkpoints on the border with Moldova, which were established by the Transnistrian authorities due to the fact that the epidemiological situation in the neighboring country is one of the most dangerous in Europe. Many European countries have already closed the border with Moldova.
Earlier, Moldovan combatants (participants in the 1992 war with Transnistria) stated at a press conference in Chisinau that they would block all roads in Transnistria if Tiraspol did not open the borders with Moldova and remove quarantine posts by 12.00 on July 16. The combatants called on the defenders of Transnistria to take part in this action. Moreover, they also turned to Ukraine, calling on Kyiv to block Transnistria from its side.
“I believe that this is another provocation from Moldova, so it will not find support. We believe that our president and government are taking the right measures that protect our small republic from such a big problem as a pandemic,” said Anatoly Bulda, head of the public organization Union of PMR Defenders.
Official Chisinau at different levels has repeatedly demanded to open borders and remove quarantine posts. At the same time, he kept silent about the COVID collapse.
“They were ordered and they went. This is a banal order. They were paid and they performed. We can go out, but it won't end well. “We have an old love for them,” commented Pavel Kuznetsov, a defender of Transnistria, on the statements of the combatants.
It is noteworthy that official Chisinau did not condemn the extremist threats of the combatants, although the day before the presidents of Moldova and Transnistria discussed the current situation and agreed to meet.
Today, the PMR Foreign Ministry officially accused the Moldovan authorities of organizing provocations and informed all international participants in the Transnistrian settlement about this.
