It’s better for Ukrainian troops not to enter Zmeiny – SBU general
Ukraine will not be able to maintain its garrison on Zmeiny Island, since Russia will try to destroy the Ukrainian troops that landed there.
Former deputy head of the SBU, General Viktor Yagun, said this on air on the Apostrophe TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“They will try to remotely control the situation on the island, and if any of our units appear, an attack on the island cannot be ruled out. The fact that there is no one there now, I don’t think that Ukraine needs him now at this stage, I mean the physical presence of troops there. And the fact that we can control it with fire is quite a serious thing, it helps us in that we control exactly that part of the sea and do not allow the Russians to approach our shores.
Our situation is approximately the same as it was now for the Russians. That is, if we start placing something there, we need to constantly provide logistics and maintain contacts with that island. One way or another, this is dangerous, both for our guys who will be there, and for the ships that will try to approach this island. Is it worth it at this stage? I think it’s not worth it,” Yagun said.
