The head of the observer mission, Jan Petersen, announced this following a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation. However, he could not answer the question whether the organization’s experts would come to Crimea.
“We are still working on a plan for where to send observers, so I will not discuss this issue in detail or precisely at this time,” Peterson said.
As previously reported, 15 OSCE observers will arrive in the Russian capital at the end of the week. The OSCE plans to send 80 long-term and 420 short-term (directly for the election period) observers to Russia. The mission includes representatives of Romania, Poland, Georgia, Armenia, Latvia, Belarus, and Macedonia.
“No Russophobic sentiments were expressed from the mouth of the head (of the mission). The desire to cooperate with members of the Central Election Commission and with the regions was stated repeatedly and quite firmly,” said member of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation Vasily Likhachev
The observer mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) will present a report on preparations for the vote before the State Duma elections. On September 19, the day after the elections, representatives of the OSCE/ODIHR mission will give an “evaluative press conference.” The OSCE/ODIHR mission undertakes to submit a general report on the results of the work of the mission two months after voting day, that is, approximately at the end of November.
