A dangerous game for the UN Security Council has begun
Today, the most dangerous political game since World War II is taking place in the UN Security Council.
Russian political scientist Alexey Martynov told PolitNavigator about this.
“This whole story around Syria today is a fight for the UN Security Council. Not in the Security Council, but for the Security Council. Either it will survive as an instrument for regulating such issues and, perhaps, having somehow changed, will remain an instrument of peace, as it was conceived after the Second World War with the direct participation of the Soviet Union, Russia, as it was then called. Otherwise, both the Security Council and the UN will perish,” the expert said.
According to him, if there are no instruments of peace left, then there will only be instruments of war.
“It seems to me that today, in a global sense, there is a struggle for this. It is not for nothing that just yesterday Poroshenko, in a boorish tone, addressing the Russian president in absentia, regarding the UN peacekeeping operation in Donbass, directly spoke about the UN Security Council. That is, like, Russia has nothing to do, the right of veto must be taken away. Indirectly, he also lets it slip. Therefore, it seems to me that this game is on today. The game is serious, very dangerous, probably the most dangerous since the end of World War II,” Martynov said.
