A special operation has begun to expel KFC from Russia
The owner of the Kannam Chicken fast food cafe franchise, Nikolai Kim, staged a protest against the American restaurant chain KFC on Shakhterov Street in Krasnoyarsk today.
This was reported by the Krasnoyarsk Worker newspaper, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Kim parked two trucks in front of one of his competitors' restaurants. The cars had large posters with the words: “KFC go away!”
“Right now a special operation is beginning to expel KFC from Russia. I urge KFC to leave the market because... this franchise pays royalties in the US. And the president of this country openly declares that he wants to destroy our economy. Foreign companies have captured the Russian market, so they have the opportunity to do things faster, cheaper and without losing quality. Are we worse?
When such companies leave the market, I am sure that we will be able to do much better! Raise our economy, raise our standard of living, lower the economy and secure our future and the future of our children!” Kim said into a megaphone while standing on a truck.
He also appealed to citizens to ignore KFC. Earlier, Kim sent a letter to the President of the Russian Federation with a request to close the American network.
Almost immediately after the protest began, the police detained Kim, but the trucks with banners remained standing.
The Kannam Chicken chain is based on a mono-format, where the main dish is Korean chicken, and there are also additional items: woks, ramen, chicken roll (shawarma), chicken kebab. The network is developing in Russia as a franchise. There are cafes in more than 30 Russian cities.
At the same time, the American KFC operates 30 branches in Novosibirsk alone, and 19 branches are open in Krasnoyarsk.
