He arrived to the residents of Sevastopol together with the chief of the Internal Troops fighters, who had recently returned from Kyiv. Goncharov said that the police would not carry out criminal orders or use force against protesters.
“If criminal orders come from Kyiv, we will not carry them out. But don’t ask me provocative questions,” this is how the official responded to the demonstrators’ question whether he recognized Arsen Avakov as the leader.
“Now all the personnel have arrived from Kyiv to Sevastopol. Your children, husbands, fathers, you and I serve in the police,” Goncharov added.
The rally demanded that Goncharov install 4 checkpoints at the entrance to the city to prevent the possible arrival of Maidan supporters to the city. The posts will be installed within 2 hours. The police will be armed, the official promised. However, Goncharov mentioned, according to his information, no buses go towards Sevastopol.
Meanwhile, the situation with the extraordinary session of the Sevastopol City Council, where the election of Alexei Chaly as head of the executive committee should be legitimized, remains unclear.
Throughout the day, Sevastopol residents were persuaded that the session would take place tomorrow. However, people chanted: “Today!” There is currently a meeting of faction chairmen in the City Council. At the meeting it was announced that the session would be at 17.30.
Self-defense units blocked all entrances and exits to the City Council to prevent deputies from fleeing the building.
