The behind-the-scenes swindle of old lady Merkel's inheritance has begun
German Chancellor Angela Merkel came under a hail of criticism from fellow party members after the conditions under which the Social Democrats were invited to join the coalition became known, Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes.

The publication notes that many party colleagues not only accused Merkel of “surrendering” key posts for the sake of her own ambitions, but also started talking about the fact that it was time for the Christian Democratic Union to think about nominating a new leader.
“At home, Merkel does not look like a winner. She was forced to negotiate a coalition agreement, taking the most unfavorable position... Talks began in the party ranks about a successor,” Deutsche Welle comments on the position of the chancellor.
“The disappointment of many Christian Democrats has once again given rise to talk that the party needs young blood,” writes the Welt newspaper.
At the same time, experts admit that Merkel’s position in German society is weakening.
“In Germany there are many strong leaders among the Christian Democrats who govern the regions well and could well lay claim to leadership of the country. For example, in the states of Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saarland. There are ambitious figures in the federal government,” said German political scientist Alexander Rahr. – If Merkel stays until 2021, her term in power will be comparable to the reign of Chancellors Adenauer and Kohl. We remember how powerfully they started, and then people got tired of them. It is obvious that now the behind-the-scenes struggle for Merkel’s inheritance will begin in the CDU.”
