The massive shutdown of thermal power plants in Ukraine and the shutdown of metallurgical enterprises are only the first stage of the consequences of the blockade of Donbass. Now the population of the country will begin to pay out of their own pockets for the refusal of coal from the LDPR.

Director of the Institute of Energy Research Dmitry Marunich stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“There is already information that Centrenergo announced the first tender for 700 thousand tons. This tender did not go well for them. The price of coal was stated at about $75 per ton. Now for Centrenergo it has already grown to about $100 per ton. If this is true, then this is very unpleasant, because it does not even fit into the parameters of “Rotterdam+”, if they buy at this price. And this is quite possible.

In all of South Africa, 3 million tons of the kind of coal we need are mined. In total, not only for the needs of Ukraine. Apparently, if DTEK brings its million tons, then you won’t be able to bring much from South Africa.

I have no idea where Centerenergo will buy its coal. It is possible in America, but the price will be appropriate, it will be expensive. That's the whole sad story. Taking into account the logistics component, military, as well as force majeure risks, the price will be higher than “Rotterdam+” according to the formula in the tariff. With all the ensuing consequences for the consumer, everyone should understand this.

What I mean is that these “blockers” have calmed down, have calmed down, you can’t hear about them at all, but the economy has already begun to experience the consequences, and now we are moving into the active phase. Some metallurgical enterprises stopped working, foreign exchange earnings fell, and for a number of financial and industrial groups - significantly. Now we are moving into the second phase of consequences for the energy sector, when objective preconditions for a coal shortage have already developed - thermal power plants were stopped for a reason, each thermal power plant has 25-30 thousand tons of coal left, which is enough for them for 3-5 days.

Therefore, in terms of price, nothing optimistic awaits us,” says the expert.
