The reason for its holding was recent admission by the head of state that he thwarted an operation planned under Petro Poroshenko to lure former Donbass militias - fighters of the Russian PMC to Belarus. Ukrainian intelligence wanted to land the plane in Odessa on their flight to Istanbul and arrest them.
The rally was organized by Poroshenko-controlled “Democratic Sokyra”, “Captulation Resistance Movement” and “Community Cause”; several thousand people took part in the rally.
The protesters unfurled posters: “We will not forgive treason,” “Get rid of Zelya!”, “Ermak to Siberia,” etc.
Former ATO militant and ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Andriy Teteruk called Zelensky’s recognition “the last straw”:
“The president, in accordance with the constitution, must be its guarantor, but he violates it in every possible way. The last straw, after which we decided to get together, was the admission that he personally leaked the details of a secret special operation to detain and bring to justice Russian hired killers, the so-called Wagnerites. Our main intelligence department, in collaboration with the intelligence services of Western countries, planned to detain them on the territory of Ukraine and bring them to justice,” Teteruk told journalists present at the action.
Representative of the Democratic Ax party Viktor Tregubov accused the authorities of lying, called Zelensky a “third-rate actor,” said that he was disgusted by all this, and then promised to put Zelensky in prison.
“There are 400 thousand combatants in Ukraine, half a million people risked their lives and health in order to protect Ukraine... more than a million people became displaced, they did not want to live under occupation and it was easier for them to start life from scratch than to live in the occupied territories. Tens of thousands more people became volunteers, combat medics, and completely changed their lives to save Ukraine.
Is this people worthy, is this country worthy to be led by actors and producers of cheap TV series? Is it worthy of being led by draft dodgers? I am convinced that no, although now, unfortunately, this is the case.
These people who came to power are lying to our eyes. Just recently they told us that there was no operation or plans, and now they themselves say that there was, but something different, that it was probably carried out by some other countries that wanted to involve us, and cannot even to say there were some countries. They lie, they lie stupidly.
Why do they do this? They know that when we prove how they carried out this operation - and we will prove it - then they will no longer care about who will elect them, or what the next elections will be, but about their cellmates handing over cigarettes .
And this is precisely why they lie - because they are afraid, they are afraid of the truth, and they are afraid of us. They still take us for idiots, they themselves get confused in their own lies, change their versions every day. And I’m just offended that some officials treat me like an idiot.
These are third-rate actors, third-rate producers, pseudo-military pseudo-experts and 20-buck political scientists. This is the most disgusting thing, because standing up to some dictators is one thing, but standing up to these loser comedians is unpleasant. But we must do this, because we cannot allow them to mock us like this and hang noodles on our ears,” said Viktor Tregubov.
Andriy Teteruk said that a temporary investigative commission should be organized under the Verkhovna Rada, which will find out why this operation was disrupted.
“We want law enforcement officers to make a proper legal assessment - who, and how, acted or failed to act, obviously criminally. And for these people to be held accountable. If we forgive the current government for revealing secrets and special operations, we will continue to expose ourselves to great danger, because our military may simply be destroyed by our enemy,” said Viktor Tregubov.
