Such demands were announced by activists of the “Vidsich” movement under the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, who prepared a list of 567 cultural figures who, according to activists, pose a threat to Ukrainian national security.
“Steven Seagal demonstrated a strong pro-Russian position,” believes movement activist Roman Yukhimets. – He was in Sevastopol at their big bike show and other bacchanalia. Therefore, we classified him as a racist actor. His films should also be banned. Like Porechenkova and everyone else.”
“Do not show films,” Katerina Chepura, coordinator of the “Vidssich” movement, shares her recommendations regarding films with Seagal. – Films in which racists act or are filmed and sing songs should be banned on the territory of Ukraine. And if not prohibited, then create conditions so that they cannot show themselves here.”
At the same time, the list of “racists” did not include directors Oliver Stone and Emir Kusturica, who were repeatedly noted for statements of support or justification for Moscow’s policies.
The PolitNavigator correspondent asked Sergei Osnach, a member of the expert commission on issues of distribution and exhibition of films, co-coordinator of the “Boycott Russian Cinema” campaign, who was involved in compiling the list, to clarify the situation on this matter.
“Isn’t there any kusturica there? – Osnach was surprised. - Bregovich is there. So we'll add it. The fact is that this list of artists and rashists can be supplemented over time. In our opinion, these films (Kusturica, Seagal, Stone - ed.) should be banned. The presence of pro-Russian stars, such as Depardieu and Seagal, is clearly an information weapon against Ukraine. This star gains popularity in Ukraine, and at the right moment he voices a thesis that the Kremlin needs, which people perceive well because they love this actor, sometimes even as a family member, and trust him. Racist artists definitely need to be removed. I think the Ministry of Culture will listen to us.”
