The National Corps, the political wing of the neo-Nazi Azov Regiment, is forced to deviate from ideological principles in order to participate in the elections. For example, in Odessa, “Azov” is represented by people who are far from the so-called “racial purity”.

Ex-deputy of the Odessa City Council Alexander Vasiliev stated this in Moscow at the presentation of the book “Black Sun of Ukraine,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“They created their own civil, political structure, the National Corps party. This probably makes a strong impression, but let's see where this party will perform in the local elections now.

“Azov” is actively represented there in an amazing way. For example, when we say that Azov, paradoxically, is a party of the southeast, historical Novorossia, there is a huge amount of outdoor advertising of Azov in Odessa, but if we look at who is walking, for example, to the same Odessa City Council from “Azov”, then we will not see, for example, racial purity there.

There you can also meet a Georgian among the candidates, or some other people who may not fit into the “Nuremberg laws”. That is, when entering the field of public policy, “Azov” is forced to give up these strict criteria associated with neo-Nazi ideas. To sacrifice the purity of ideology in order to participate in such a liberal procedure as party struggle and competitive elections.

And this is an important lesson. Let's see what they ultimately succeed in, in which regions they will be able to show results. This will be an important signal,” Vasiliev said.

The politician also noted the fact that ideologically the current “Azov” and its branches are close to the works of Dmitry Dontsov, who is considered the ideologist of Ukrainian integral nationalism, but at the same time was an ethnic Russian, a native of Novorossiya. Vasiliev drew parallels between the events in Ukraine a century ago and today:

“Dmitry Dontsov is an ethnic Russian man, he is a man from the city of Melitopol, that is, this is one of the typical small towns of Novorossiya with all the characteristic features. Initially, Mr. Dontsov began as almost a Russian social democrat, and if his fate had turned out differently, he could have drifted to the Mensheviks, probably, but in the end this man became an ideologist of something that is commonly considered Ukrainian nationalism.

But if we look at the relationship between Dontsov and the OUN, we will see simply a copy of the relationship between “Azov” and the same “Svoboda”, some more traditional Ukrainian Galician nationalists.

When Dontsov was invited to join the OUN - to become a member of the most powerful Ukrainian nationalist organization, which had its own terrorist network and organizational cells - Dontsov refused and greatly offended the future Banderaites with this refusal.

And if we look at Dontsov’s main thoughts, we will see very little Ukrainian nationalism there - some kind of exaltation, “what a wonderful Ukrainian people” - on the contrary! Dontsov will write that the majority of the Ukrainian people are cattle, buckwheat farmers, peasants - that above them there should be a caste of selected warriors who have a completely different set of characteristics that are not inherent in the Ukrainian masses.

If we look at what Azov represents today, this organization is precisely built on the idea of a warrior caste that should lead society,” Vasilyev recalled.
