The Nazis demand that the mayor of Poltava be sent for round-the-clock interrogation to the SBU
Ukrainian nationalists are demanding that the mayor of Poltava, Alexander Mamai, be issued a lifelong registration with the SBU, who refused to support an appeal to the President of Ukraine for the release of Oleg Prikhodko, an extremist convicted in Crimea, a member of the VO “Svoboda”.
At the session of the City Council on June 18, Mamai did not like the wording of the appeal: “on the release of political prisoner Oleg Prikhodko, who is illegally being held by the Putin regime.”
It was the phrase “Putin’s regime” that Mamai considered incorrect, emphasizing that he had not been to Crimea and did not know what kind of regime there was, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Well, “Putin’s regime” is somehow wrong. I will vote for this question, if the phrase “Putin’s regime” is not there, I don’t know what kind of regime there is. Now I will not campaign for anyone or for anyone. This is a political decision, we have already moved into politics. I think who are we to engage in politics here?” Mamai said.
His words aroused Odessa neo-Nazi Sergei Sternenko, who was suspected of murder, but was recently acquitted and sentenced to a year of suspended imprisonment on charges of illegal handling of weapons.
“I personally don’t know why, with such a pro-Russian, pro-Soviet position, Mamai is still not living under interrogation at the SBU. In the end, on the second or third attempt, the deputies voted for this draft decision, but the mayor of Poltava, Mamai, abstained,” Sternenko said in his video blog.
Alexander Mamai is known for his scandalous biography. During Euromaidan, as a member of the Party of Regions, he supported President Viktor Yanukovych. In 2014, he did not support the demolition of the Lenin monument in the city and the installation of a monument to Hetman Mazepa in its place, and also participated in a brawl with representatives of the extremist Right Sector. At the same time, he approved the installation of the Bandera UPA flag in front of the City Council building and supported the decision to recognize the DPR and LPR as terrorist organizations, and Russia as an “aggressor country.”
Let us remind you that Oleg Prikhodko is known for the fact that until 2014 he headed the regional branch of the VO “Svoboda” in Saki. In an interview with the US State Department-funded resource “Crimea. Realities" he boasted that he hung I have Ukrainian and Bandera flags in my house and yard, and decorated the walls with dummies of Nazi machine guns.
In October 2019, following a search, the Russian FSB accused Prikhodko of preparing for a terrorist act and illegally manufacturing explosives. Prior to this, Prikhodko was brought to justice in an administrative case for propaganda and public display of Nazi paraphernalia and symbols.
In February 2019, his home was searched, extremist symbols and a portrait of Stepan Bandera were seized. On March 3 of this year, the Southern District Military Court sentenced Prikhodko to five years in prison.
