The National Council reported on successes in ousting the Russian language
Ukrainian radio stations and television channels have encountered problems fulfilling language quotas.
Ulyana Feshchuk, Deputy Head of the National Council of Ukraine for Television and Radio Broadcasting, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When introducing and fulfilling quotas, licensees encountered certain difficulties. Radio stations were faced with the fact that they were formatted, so songs in Ukrainian in a certain format were sometimes difficult to find. Almost all entertainment programs on TV channels were in Ukrainian; they invited Russian-speaking presenters.
And in fact, they had to raise quite a lot of money to retrain the presenters and teach them to speak Ukrainian. We see that quite a large number of presenters already speak Ukrainian quite fluently, and it doesn’t even hurt the ears. When it all started, in fact the picture was like this, not very good, but now the trend is still positive,” said Feshchuk.
