Are you laughing at Kovtun? You're laughing at yourself!
A participant in Russian talk shows, Vyacheslav Kovtun, introducing himself as a “Ukrainian political scientist,” ended up on the “Peacemaker” website, where Ukrainian nationalists, with the support of the special services, publish an illegal dossier on citizens disliked by the regime, some of whom were subsequently killed, such as the writer Oles Buzina.
“A regular participant in the talk show, Vyacheslav Kovtun, ended up on the neo-Nazi website Peacemaker, which creates a list of people with home addresses against whom neo-Nazis can commit crimes. Because he allows himself to be used in propaganda for money. Many times Kovtun said that all this was nonsense. But something tells me that now Kovtun will try to travel to Kyiv as little as possible. Because he knows that there are real neo-Nazis there. And everyone knows this, including those who justify it,” says political scientist Sergei Markov.
“Congratulations to Kovtun on getting onto the Peacemaker website. I remember he was so happy on air about the victims of this “hit list.” So welcome! But on the other hand, I personally find it more and more disgusting to be on this list. Previously, there was a worthy company there. And now the Kovtuns, Saakashvilis, Tymoshenkos,” notes political scientist Vladimir Kornilov.
“I just showed Kovtun his name on the Peacemaker’s list. He declares that the Peacemaker is “promoting himself” at the expense of his fame. Like, everyone began to forget about this site, so they decided to exploit the Great Name,” the expert added, talking about his meeting with Kovtun in a Russian TV studio.
The writer from Sevastopol, Platon Besedin, on the contrary, does not share the sarcasm of the commentators.
“You have to laugh and think about something completely different. About the fact that for federal money such a clown is invited to broadcast, who throws mud at Russia and its people. You have to laugh at the fact that someone seriously thinks that such a technique works... We can laugh at this. For example, over the fact that Russian policy in Ukraine has completely failed. That ambassadors like Chernomyrdin and Zurabov represented our country. That Rossotrudnichestvo was inactive. That the “soft power” mentioned with or without reason did not work in Ukraine. Let's laugh about it. But it’s not funny, is it?” – Besedin writes on his blog.
It should be noted that earlier Kiev political consultant Nikolai Spiridonov urged not to consider Kovtun a narrow-minded person.
“Sometimes I read in my feed the opinion that Vyacheslav Kovtun is an idiot. I've known him since 2008. – I was with him several times on joint broadcasts and other events. He is quite a smart and erudite person. As far as I remember, he is a candidate of historical sciences. Why is he making a fool of himself on Russian TV? That's his job! This is what he most likely gets paid for. His task is to portray a patriotic Ukrainian idiot. And Vyacheslav Nikolaevich does an excellent job. A good, talented actor,” Spiridonov noted.
In turn, Kiev lawyer Tatyana Montyan reported that while working on a talk show in Moscow, Kovtun bought an apartment in the Russian capital not far from the television studio where he usually performs. “It’s very close to Pravda Street, where 60 Minutes airs, so Comrade Kovtun can even walk,” she said.
“I personally don’t expect to live on a pension. I have already secured old age for myself,” Kovtun himself previously admitted.
