Flags of Albania and Albanian terrorists were raised over an Orthodox church in Macedonian Tetovo
Over the temple in honor of St. Athanasius in the historical part of the city of Tetovo in North Macedonia, unknown persons planted the flags of Albania and the Albanian separatist National Liberation Army (UCK - Ushtria Çlirimtare Kombëtare).
Today, more than half of the city’s population are Albanians, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The parish administration of the Church of St. Athanasius reported the desecration to the Tetovo police.
“It is reported that unknown persons placed an Albanian flag on the dome of the Church of St. Athanasius in the Tetovo citadel, and on a pole at the entrance to the citadel - a UCK flag. Immediately after the message, a task force was sent to the place,” said Tetovo Internal Affairs Directorate press secretary Marjan Josifoski.
Tellingly, the act of symbolic desecration of the Orthodox church took place in the historical citadel of Tetovo, where it is located.
According to the 2002 census, Albanians made up 54,6% of the inhabitants of Tetovo. In the late 90s and early XNUMXs, the city became one of the centers of the Albanian armed rebellion. The conflict ended with the United States and NATO preventing the Macedonian leadership from finishing off the separatists and forcing them to sign the Ohrid Agreement with them.
