Ukraine will not be able to return Donbass and Crimea by force. Even if the Russian army does not develop, but is mothballed in its current state, its power will be ten times greater than the Ukrainian one.

The representative of Ukraine in the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk, the former head of the SBU and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Yevgeny Marchuk, stated this on the UkrLife Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to Marchuk, in the case of Donbass, Ukraine will have to make compromises, and Crimea will have to promise that Ukrainization will not take place on this land.

“In a military sense, I would not console myself with the economic recession, and there is one, in Russia. Yes, this will help us in a sense, it relates more to the economy and so on. But in a military sense, even what Russia has today, even if it remains and does not expand and modernize, is ten times more than what Ukraine has in a military sense...

I understand why the word compromise makes everyone tremble and faint, and so on. This is such a patriotically sacred feeling: “How, what compromise, with whom?” But when you know 120 military conflicts after the Second World War that were similar to ours, and 120 of them are accompanied by the UN, and you personally, I personally ironed 62, I was in Northern Ireland twice, and in the Balkans, and so on. And when you know how it ended and why it ended, (compromise) is inevitable. But no compromise on basic things - the state, sovereignty, borders, much more - is inviolable.

But at tactical (levels): transitional administrations, transitional justice and much more, the return of the civilian population, the creation of certain conditions, a transitional period where it is necessary to retreat a little. Let’s say, with the program for the return of Crimea, if it were a state program, for the peaceful return of Crimea, we will not return it by war, this is obviously necessary,” he admitted.

At the same time, even Marchuk understands that Ukrainization was one of the first reasons for the loss of the peninsula.

“But we won’t return it only peacefully, without a strong army behind us... I would not introduce the return of Crimea in this peaceful plan, or somehow give a hint that there will be no forced Ukrainization. I myself am a patriot of the Ukrainian language, it is my native, maternal language, my mother spoke Ukrainian. But for some transition period, yes, the state language. At some point, due to circumstances,” Marchuk forced out the phrase.
