“We must be on duty with grenade launchers”: Nalyvaichenko calls for a fight against the Russian landing force
In 2014, the Security Service of Ukraine was preparing to repel a Russian landing on Kyiv.
Former head of the SBU Valentin Nalyvaichenko said this on air on the Apostrophe TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Nalyvaichenko, the Ukrainian security forces need to do the same now in order to scare Russia.
“On February 24, when I went to the SBU, since February 25 we had one and the biggest headache - so that Russian paratroopers and planes [do not land in Kyiv]. There is no need for any declassification for this, I say it straight - every night then our military intelligence worked adequately. It was not the New York Times that reported its findings, but directly to me and the government leadership, every night it began at three o’clock: “The landing of the planes, the landing on board, the dry ration was issued” and a lot of other things that there is information that is confirmed, that they are preparing for landing,” says Nalyvaichenko.
“What did the SBU do? We blocked the runways, no matter how many of those Alfa members and SBU officers remained faithful to the oath - there were few at the end of February, but they all traveled on my orders and the runways of Boryspil, Uzin and other airports around Kiev were simply closed with bulldozers, with grenade launchers. And we didn’t hide it from the Russians, we leaked information so that they knew: take off, no questions asked, but you won’t land. That's how it started. “I’m talking about what needs to be done and understood now in relation to Ukraine,” Nalyvaichenko said.
