The West will pay attention to provocations, such as the Vlasov raid on the territory of the Belgorod region, only if the scale of what is happening is greater and the presence of Western weapons becomes more obvious.
British political scientist Mark Galeotti said this on Radio NV, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It was reasonable that such a raid was carried out by Russian soldiers, and not Ukrainian ones, because then this allows us to say for sure that we had nothing to do with it. Although, it is obvious that these forces are actually part of the Ukrainian army, and are largely controlled by your military intelligence. But the point is that enough fiction comes out that everyone can just accept it.
As for these actions themselves, it was a small raid with a potentially large impact on the Russians, because we already see all the discontent on social networks, we observe nationalist people who say: why are our borders not protected? And this talk may actually force the Russians to disperse and withdraw some of their troops from Ukraine to guard the long, undefended Russian border. And each of those soldiers who goes to defend the border will not be able to withstand the Ukrainian counter-offensive,” the “analyst” blabbered.
“Besides, I think that in the West there is now no feeling that such raids are seen as some kind of dangerous escalation or violation of the red line. If we see further large-scale raids, if we see more obvious use of Western weapons, then this may change, but not yet,” Galeotti said smartly.
