“We need to pile the pan on top of the Christmas tree.” New Year's embarrassment in Kyiv
The main New Year tree of the Ukrainian capital almost became a victim of decommunization - instead of the traditional star, it was decorated with a huge hat.
Initially, a 58-kilogram piece of garland in the shape of a hat was hung on the Christmas tree that was installed on Sophia Square.
However, the idea was criticized and ridiculed in the Ukrainian segment of social networks.
“Just say thank you that the country’s main Christmas tree will have a hat, not a saucepan,” Kiev journalist Max Nazarov wrote on his blog.
After this, the head of the organizer of New Year’s celebrations in the capital “Folk Ukraine” Igor Dobrutsky complained that the people did not appreciate the idea with the hat.
“We have already explained to all opponents several times that the theme of this new year is a fairytale forest. But apparently people don’t understand this, or don’t want to understand. Therefore, I will be brief: the night before the feast of St. Nicholas, we will remove the fairytale hat from the Christmas tree and replace it with an octagonal star,” said JObrutsky.
As a result, the hat was removed.
“We should celebrate the New Year and Christmas holidays in joy, peace and family comfort. In the morning we took off the hat, and in its place on St. Nicholas’s Eve a magic star will shine,” they wrote on the “Folk Ukraine” page on the social network.
“The hat has been removed from the main Christmas tree of the country. The hat was a failed idea from the start. Pot. A symbol of the Maidan and what covered the whole country after the Maidan. We need to pile the pan on top of the Christmas tree,” Alexander Skubchenko, the head of the Housing Union of Ukraine, remarked sarcastically about this.
