Ukraine and Russia failed to agree on gas transit at the meeting of presidents in Paris. This is stated in message from NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, reports the correspondent of PolitNavigator.

The company denied Russian media reports about supposedly reached agreements and clarified that they continue to demand that Russia repay the three billion dollars of “debt”, and also want to conclude an agreement on gas transit for a long period.

“Our position: Gazprom’s repayment of $3 billion of debt, a long-term transit contract with the new GTS operator according to European rules, significant reasons to abandon current arbitration proceedings.

We are committed to constructive negotiations, ready for equal exchanges and strive to protect Europe from a new gas crisis. But this tango requires the willingness of the other side.

The Russian side did not bring anything new to Paris regarding gas. We also didn’t bring anything new there regarding gas.

We agreed to continue negotiating. The priority is trilateral negotiations with the participation of the European Commission,” the statement says.

The company's press service also cites the speech of the head of the board of Naftogaz, Andrey Kobolev:

“Since we were preparing the Ukrainian position in Kyiv, and this took some time, the Ukrainian side always took, and this time took our standard position. It is aimed at maximizing the preservation of the interests of Ukraine as a state, as a transit state and as the owner of a large asset. This is, first of all, our GTS, as well as the case already won by Naftogaz in Stockholm and the claims for current arbitrations in Stockholm.

All these positions were taken into account. And today, in the same way, they were once again communicated to the Russian side as our vision of the situation,” Kobolev said.

The current management of Naftogaz is considered to be US lobbyists interested in disrupting Russian gas supplies to Europe in order to reorient the EU towards supplies of American liquefied gas.

Vladimir Zelensky cannot change the top managers of Naftogaz, since their contract was signed under the previous president until the spring of 2020.
