Naftogaz hastened to take credit for the victory over Gazprom in court
Naftogaz was able to resume the seizure of Nord Stream shares, but only until the appeal against the Swedish court’s decision, according to which Gazprom lifted the seizure of its assets, was considered.
The Russian Kommersant reports this.
Naftogaz filed an appeal and at the same time requested urgent interim measures. In the latter, the Ukrainian company succeeded, and now the shares of these two companies will be under arrest until the appeal is resolved. However, the parties have switched places: if initially Gazprom had to convince the Swiss authorities to lift the arrest, now Naftogaz is trying to convince them to maintain it,” the publication writes.
Naftogaz's position is worsened by the fact that the Swedish Court of Appeal of the Svea District has imposed a ban on the forced recovery of $2,6 billion from Gazprom until it considers the merits of the Russian company's appeal against the arbitration decision.
“In such a situation, the judiciary in other countries will likely take a neutral position, that is, they will likely maintain the seizure of assets in cases where it has already been imposed, but will not decide to seize new assets. “Naftogaz stated that it had taken measures to seize assets, in addition to Switzerland, in the Netherlands and the UK, but whether any assets were actually seized is unknown,” writes Kommersant.
