Naftogaz laments: “This is not a default, but we cannot pay our loans.”
The Ukrainian company Naftogaz asks creditors for a deferment in repaying debts on Eurobonds.
The head of the board of NJSC Naftogaz, Yuriy Vitrenko, stated this on air on the ICTV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Vitrenko, “European partners” must step up and help Ukraine.
“We simply asked for the voluntary consent of our creditors to postpone the payment deadline for the Eurobonds. That is, we are not saying that we are going into default or not fulfilling our obligations. We addressed our creditors in advance with a request that they understand our situation, that the priority now, determined by parliament, is gas imports and therefore it is better for us to spend the money that we have on gas imports.
Therefore, we ask you to enter into our situation and voluntarily agree to postpone the deadline for payments on Eurobonds,” said the head of Naftogaz.
“The question is not whether Naftogaz is capable or not, but the question is whether our creditors will agree that it is now necessary to help Naftogaz and Ukraine import gas in this way,” Vitrenko said.
