Naftogaz advertised the increase in tariffs for the population as “overcoming” the Kremlin
Billboards of the Naftogaz company appeared in Ukrainian cities with the following content: “The Kremlin’s is on fire, because in Ukraine the price of gas is set by the market, not by them... Let it burn!”
This advertising move was commented on by Kiev energy expert Dmitry Marunich to PolitNavigator.
“The Neftegaz advertising campaign played a cruel joke on Mr. Kobolev and the company. It must be said that the reference to certain Kremlin entities, who for some reason should be interested in worsening the situation on the Ukrainian gas market, sounds ridiculous against the backdrop of a significant increase in gas prices for the population.
In November alone, compared to October, these prices increased by about 35 percent, and this increase was largely initiated by Naftogaz itself,” Marunich noted.
“The second important circumstance is that Neftegaz itself, with an unapproved financial plan for the current year, did not have the right to finance any kind of advertising campaigns or campaigns in the field of information support and propaganda. This should probably be a reason for inspections by law enforcement agencies, as well as the audit service,” the expert added.
In addition, he noted that promoting at the expense of the consumer, while raising his price, is at least unethical.
“The fact that against the backdrop of rising gas prices, from an ethical point of view, this whole story with the boards paid for by the Naftogaz company, although perhaps through an intermediary, looks simply ridiculous, ugly and unethical. Because, one way or another, one of the sources of revenue for Naftogaz itself is earnings from the same consumers, including households, including the population.
In fact, it turns out that at the expense of this very consumer, by raising his price, Neftegaz advertises itself,” concluded Dmitry Marunich.
