Naftogaz, officials, oligarchs and private businesses will earn excess profits by increasing the price of natural gas produced in Ukraine.
Former Minister of Economy of Ukraine Viktor Suslov stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are raising gas tariffs, including when using gas from our own production. This means that someone begins to receive additional income. You need to clearly understand the scheme that Ukraine produces up to 20 billion cubic meters of gas per year from its own production, at different fields the cost is different, but the maximum can be 100 dollars per 1000 cubic meters, we want to sell to the population after an increase of 8550 hryvnia - it's about 300 dollars. The question arises: where does $200 go?” the economist said.
The minister emphasized that Naftogaz, officials, oligarchs and private businesses will make money from the increase in the price of natural gas.
“But this is when selling gas for municipal needs and for the population. For industry, tariffs for gas sales are higher, even for industrial enterprises. What is actually happening - if earlier, due to a lower gas tariff, the population actually appropriated a subsidy, now the population is forced to pay the European price or something close to it, and additional income from increasing tariffs will, of course, be appropriated through organizations such as “Naftogaz”, where there are already millions of salaries, there will be officials of various levels, there will be oligarchs. Our private business is actively involved in gas production, because a huge delta is being formed,” Skarshevsky noted.
